Ten Media practitioners were escaped being lynched on Saturday by suspected political thugs in Idembia, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The journalists were attacked while driving into a road to cover a programme organised by a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ifeanyi Nworie.

The journalists were attending the event with their official vehicle branded “Correspondents’ Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi State Council@, when the thugs led by a legal practitioner (name withheld) attacked them.

The thugs badly hit the vehicle in an attempt to gain entrance into the bus, and were looking for fuel to set it ablaze, when the driver of the vehicle maneuvered them and escaped.

The thugs, numbering over 150, were wearing t-shirts bearing pictures of a serving federal lawmaker from the state.

The political thugs barricaded the road leading to the venue of the event to prevent the supporters of the PDP chieftain.

The event was billed to hold at the village square by the roadside in the community, when the suspected political thugs stormed the place and disrupted it.

The organiser decided to shift the event to his compound. Still, the thugs went to the road leading to his family compound and barricaded the place and started attacking those coming for the event through the road.

Over 20 armed policemen were seen on the road leading to the venue.

When the legal practitioner was contacted on the phone through a voice note, he tagged the attacked media practitioners as political journalists.
