President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, on his election as Chairman of the African Association of Accountant-Generals (AAAG), describing the feat as a source of pride for Nigeria.

Ogunjimi was elected after defeating candidates from Tanzania and The Gambia in a keenly contested poll conducted during the association’s Annual General Meeting held recently in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

In a statement issued yesterday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said Ogunjimi’s emergence at the helm of the continental body underscored Nigeria’s sustained commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and excellence in public finance administration.

Tinubu said the election was not only a personal achievement for the Accountant-General but also a testament to Nigeria’s growing leadership role in advancing sound public financial management across Africa.

The President expressed confidence that Ogunjimi would use his tenure to strengthen cooperation among member countries, encourage the exchange of best practices, build institutional capacity and drive reforms aimed at improving prudent financial management across the continent.

He said the new AAAG chairman possesses the experience and competence required to provide effective leadership for the association and advance its objectives. (The Nation)
