British music star, Tony Marnach, popularly known as DJ Fat Tony, has opened up about the impact of his past crystal meth addiction, revealing that it became so severe he pulled out his own teeth during one of the darkest periods of his life.

The 60-year-old made the disclosure during an appearance on Olivia Attwood’s Olivia’s House podcast, where he reflected on his years of drug and alcohol abuse.

Tony, who has now been sober for 20 years, said he believed he was still in control even as his addiction damaged his physical and mental health.

“Even when I was a complete crystal meth junkie with no teeth, I still thought I was in control,” he said. “I thought, ‘I could stop this if I wanted to.’ It’s a false sense of being. I couldn’t survive without that stuff.”

Tony explained that he convinced himself he needed drugs to cope with the demands of his career as a DJ. He said the addiction gradually took over his life and pushed people close to him away.

During the interview, Olivia Attwood asked him about previous accounts that he had pulled out his own teeth. Tony said years of substance abuse left him constantly anxious and contributed to serious dental problems.

According to him, he rarely drank water for nearly three decades, leaving him dehydrated and causing his gums to recede. He also said smoking drugs led to infections in his mouth and gums.

As his condition worsened, Tony said he repeatedly picked at his gums with his fingers before using other objects.

“So you’d sit and dig at them, and the finger wasn’t doing it, so I’d pick up a bit of stick and start digging,” he recalled.

The DJ said the drugs often left his face numb and that his mental health had declined to the point where he believed his actions were normal.

“At the time, my face was always numb and I just wanted them out of my mouth,” he said. “I was so mentally unwell that I thought it was normal. I would sit rocking backwards and forwards to stabilize myself.”

When asked how people around him reacted as he lost his teeth, Tony said many had already left his life.

“People had gone,” he said. “The faster we go down, the quicker those people hit the wall and are out, and you’re left at the bottom with the carcasses, the sewage, the rats and all of the bottom feeders.”

DJ Fat Tony rose to prominence in the late 1980s as a leading figure in London’s club and fashion scene. He later became one of the most sought-after DJs for celebrity events. (Nigerian Tribune)
