Actress Toke Makinwa
Media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, has shared why she no longer buys gifts for men she is in a relationship with, saying the decision was influenced by an experience she had as a university student.
Speaking on a recent episode of her Toke Moments podcast, which featured reality star Beauty Tukura, Makinwa recalled dating a man who was 10 years older than her while she was an undergraduate.
According to her, she used her semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday, only to later discover that he was cheating on her.
“I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.
“He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home…there was another woman in his house. That broke me,” she stated.
Makinwa explained that the incident had a lasting impact on her and changed the way she approaches gift-giving in romantic relationships. (Nigerian Tribune)
