Onitsha, the economic capital of Anambra State in South-East Nigeria, is in a state of frenzy as the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) holds its Governorship Rally in the famed commercial town.
Onitsha is a strategic town in the battle to produce a successor to Governor Peter Obi and none of the parties in the state is taking it lightly. The APGA rally is on-going, graced by a mammoth crowd, at the All Saints Cathedral Onitsha.
Before the rally, APGA chieftains led by Governor Obi paid a courtesy call on the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnanyelugo Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, who gave his blessings to the APGA governorship candidate, Chief Willie Obiano. The revered monarch, who is on Ofala vacation, was represented by his next in command, the Ajia, who warmly welcomed the visitors, assuring him of the support of Onitsha people in his quest to win the November 16 governornorship election.
Before proceeding to the Obi of Onitsha’s palace, Governor Peter Obi performed the ground-breaking ceremony at Odekpe Ogbaru for the Nigerian Naval Base, donating 200 million naira to the Navy for the project.
The governor also hosted the Muslim community in the Governor’s Lodge, Onitsha, as well as
commissioned brand-new hi-tech dialysis machine at the Onitsha General Hospital.
