Olamilekan Odeyemi
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday released videos of a wanted suspect, Olamilekan Odeyemi, popularly known as Emir, to a delegation from the British High Commission.
According to the APC, Emir was captured in one of the videos opening the gate of the Government House to his colleagues.
The party also released a video showing Emir and another person identified as Nurudeen Alowonle, whom the APC said is on the police wanted list, allegedly standing beside Governor Ademola Adeleke during the official flag-off of his re-election campaign.
The APC governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, described media reports alleging that foreign missions, including the British High Commission, were urged to deny entry visas to APC members as “unfounded.”
In his remarks, Oyebamiji argued that if any party had reason to request such action, it would have been the APC, claiming that many APC members were killed during the 2022 election period in places including Ilesa, Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ikirun, Ikire, Ede, and other communities. He said the incidents were reported to the Nigeria Police Force and that some cases are reportedly before the courts.
“Permit me to also address recent media reports alleging that foreign missions, including the British High Commission, were urged to deny entry visas to members of our party. I regard such reports as entirely unfounded and, frankly, the joke of the century,” Oyebamiji said.
He added that in the last two years, APC members have continued to lose their lives, citing the killing of Hon. Remi Abbas, Executive Chairman of Irewole Local Government, at the local government secretariat as an example.
Oyebamiji said the APC does not try to “politicise” such incidents and instead supports law enforcement agencies in conducting professional investigations.
He also expressed confidence that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would conduct a credible governorship election on 15 August 2026, while urging the commission to provide a level playing field for all political parties.
The delegation, led by the Senior Political Adviser, Wale Adebajo, said it was in the state as part of pre-election peace-building efforts, noting that it had met the governor, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other stakeholders. (The Sun)
