Plateau State Gov Caleb Mutfwang
Gunmen have killed two persons, including an 82-year-old man, in separate attacks on communities in Irigwe chiefdom of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as Demi Duda, 82, and Emmanuel Chinge, 19.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement (IYM), Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, confirmed the attacks in a statement issued on Monday in Jos.
He said Emmanuel Chinge was killed on Sunday at Nche-tahu in Nkien-whie District, while another attack occurred between 1:00 am and 2:00 a.m. on Monday in Kurudu, Jebbu Miango, where Demi Duda was killed.
Yonkpa said another resident sustained injuries during the attacks.
The group expressed concern over what it described as the worsening security situation in Irigwe chiefdom, alleging that repeated attacks have continued to claim lives, destroy farmlands and worsen the economic hardship faced by residents.
It called on the government and security agencies to take urgent steps to protect communities and end the recurring violence.
The group also appealed to Nigerians to support and pray for communities affected by insecurity in Irigwe land and other parts of Plateau State.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Police Public Relations Officer in Plateau State, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful, as he could not be reached at the time of filing this report. (Daily Trust)
