Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the IGP Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) have announced the recovery of two AK-47 magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and other Police-related items during a sustained raid on a suspected cultists’ hideout in Awada, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
It stated that though no suspect was apprehended at the scene, that a cache of weapons was recovered.
According to a statement made available to the media by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police team stormed the notorious black spot known for cult-related activities at Nwaziki Street, Awada.
He said that though no suspect was arrested at the scene, the operatives have commenced investigations to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, establish ownership of the recovered exhibits, and unravel any criminal network linked to the items recovered.
He said: "The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, while commending the operatives for their proactive intelligence-led policing efforts, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain aggressive raids against criminal elements and their enclaves across the State.”
