The forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) former legislators in Osun State have urged the Inspector General of Police, Tunde Disu, not to allow partisan consideration in the call for the redeployment of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo, yesterday, former speaker, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, stated that some people are dissatisfied with the activities of the Commissioner of Police because of his determination to enforce the law without fear or favour.
According to Owoeye, since the deployment CP Gotan to Osun, he has demonstrated professionalism, neutrality, courage and commitment to the protection of lives and property.
“Public concern was recently heightened by a viral video showing one Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, within the premises of the Osun State Government House directing suspicious-looking individuals around the facility.
“The video generated widespread concern because of existing allegations linking him and others to the recruitment and mobilisation of political thugs ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
“The rule of law requires that no individual, regardless of status or political affiliation, should be above scrutiny where legitimate security concerns exist,” Owoeye said.
Insisting that security agencies must be allowed to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without intimidation, interference or pressure from any quarter, Owoeye said “We call on the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Bisu to resist any pressure aimed at influencing operational decisions within the Nigeria Police Force for partisan considerations.
“The intention of the state government is to remove professional security agents so they can have a free day to unleash their political bandits and janjaweed on our members,” Owoeye said.
He challenged the governor to hand over criminal suspects living in the Government House to the police for investigation and prosecution. (SUN)
