10-year-old Chiziterem seen with a scalded body
The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of a couple – Chukwudi Chukwuyere ‘M’ aged 40 years and Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere ‘F’ aged 30 years, in a correctional centre over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy under their care.
Recall that the boy, identified as Chiziterem, whose viral video was seen on social media with a scalded body, showing injuries on all parts of his body, allegedly inflicted on him by his guardians, in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
He is currently receiving medical treatment under state protection.
The video footage of the victim which surfaced online some days ago attracted public concern prompting the state government’s intervention.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were arraigned in court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the case.
Ikenga said, “The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of Mr Chukwudi Chukwuyere ‘M’ aged 40 years and Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere ‘F’ aged 30 years in a Correctional Centre over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu, Anambra State.
“The suspects were arraigned in court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the case, which attracted public concern after reports and video footage of the victim surfaced on social media.
“To this end, the Anambra State Police Command commends the residents of the area for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of information that led to the rescue of the child and ensured that he received the necessary medical attention, while the suspects were apprehended.
“Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police. Further developments would be communicated accordingly.”
PUNCH Online on Wednesday, reported that the Anambra State First Lady, Nonye Soludo, expressed delight over the steady recovery of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly assaulted by his guardians, describing it as a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of love, support and prayers from kind-hearted individuals.
Soludo, who paid a second visit to the boy at the hospital, expressed relief over the reassuring update from the medical team that his condition is stable.
While assessing the victim’s condition during the follow-up visit, the First Lady expressed satisfaction with his steady improvement and commended the medical team caring for him. (The PUNCH)
