Late poly students Hope and Gift
Two students of the Mass Communication Department at Federal Polytechnic Bauchi (FPTB) have lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Bauchi–Jos highway.
The victims, simply identified as Hope and Gift, were among four National Diploma (ND II) students of the department who were travelling together when the accident occurred on Friday.
The two students died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash, while the other occupants of the vehicle survived and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Mohammed Rabiu, said the students were travelling to reunite with their families after completing their first semester examinations.
“I just confirmed that two of our students had an accident on their way to Jos. Three were treated and have been discharged. They were already close to Jos when the accident occurred,” he said.
Rabiu explained that the affected students were all from the Mass Communication Department and had recently concluded their examinations.
“They are Mass Communication students and ND II students. They had just completed their first semester examinations and were travelling to reunite with their parents when the accident happened, just a few kilometres to their destination,” he added.
According to him, the institution has commenced efforts to visit and condole with the families of the deceased and injured students.
“Efforts are ongoing to visit and condole with the families of both the deceased and the injured students,” he said.
The incident has thrown the Polytechnic community into mourning, with students and staff expressing shock and sadness over the loss of the young students. (The Nation, excluding headline)
