Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development is set to conduct a comprehensive inspection of ongoing projects within the Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of Lagos.
This initiative is slated to commence on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Delivering an address to the Committee before the initiation of the oversight process, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Sanni Ganiyu Babatunde, revealed that this exercise is an integral part of the constitutional oversight duties of the Lagos State House of Assembly by ensuring accountability, transparency, and effective service delivery at the grassroots level.
He indicated that the inspection tour will provide members of the Committee with the opportunity to assess the extent of implementation of both ongoing and completed projects, evaluate their impact on the residents’ lives, and ensure that public funds allocated for developmental projects are utilised judiciously.
He observed that Local governments are the closest level of government to the citizens and play a vital role in providing essential services and infrastructure to communities. Therefore, projects undertaken by the councils must be carried out in accordance with approved specifications and with the best interests of the people in mind.
Hon. Sanni emphasized that the oversight exercise is not intended to witch-hunt any council administration but rather to promote good governance, strengthen institutional accountability, and encourage efficient utilization of public resources.
The committee reiterates its dedication to endorsing policies and programs aimed at enhancing grassroots development, fortifying local governance, and improving the quality of life for residents throughout Lagos.
In pursuit of these objectives, the committee intends to conduct inspections of various projects, including road construction and rehabilitation, drainage infrastructure, healthcare facilities, educational projects, markets, community development initiatives, and other significant interventions carried out by the councils.
The inspection tour is expected to cover all 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the State. (Tribune)
