Gov Okpebholo during the parade of suspected kidnappers and cultists by the Edo State Police Comma
A suspected kidnapper arrested in connection with the recent abduction of a woman in Benin, Edo State, has allegedly confessed to receiving ₦1.5 million from ransom proceeds paid by the victim’s family.
The suspect, identified as Marvelous Isaac, 32, made the disclosure during a public interrogation session at the Edo State Police Command headquarters in Benin.
The arrest followed a coordinated operation by the Edo State Police Command and other security agencies after the abduction.
The interrogation formed part of ongoing investigations into the kidnapping incident that sparked public concern and prompted swift action by security agencies.
During questioning, Isaac admitted receiving the sum from an estimated ₦8 million ransom reportedly paid to secure the victim’s release.
He also confirmed that he was arrested by police operatives on Wednesday night and that ammunition was recovered from him at the time of his arrest.
“Two rounds of ammunition were found in my possession. The firearm used in the operation belonged to a CSO. His name is Liberty.
“We, five of us, rented the gün from Liberty and proceeded for the kidnap operation,” the suspect added.
Governor Monday Okpebholo, who witnessed the interrogation, commended security operatives for their efforts in tracking down the suspects and reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
The governor also announced plans to establish a special court to fast-track the prosecution of kidnapping and cultism cases, warning that criminal elements would face the full weight of the law if convicted. (Nigerian Tribune)
