Edo State Governor, Okpebholo
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to sign a death warrant for any kidnapper or criminal sentenced to death in the state.
Governor Okpebholo said he would publicly execute those whose death warrants have been signed.
The Edo Governor spoke in Benin City during his visit to the Edo Police headquarters to see the suspect recently nabbed by police operatives.
Among the suspects was 32-year-old Marvellous Issac, whose gang kidnapped one Precious Ofure in broad daylight at the popular Vegetable Market along the Airport Road, Benin City.
Items recovered from Marvellous and his gang include a red Lexus RX 350 marked EKP 848 AE, one pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, N2.2m cash used for ransom payment and one motorcycle.
Governor Okpebholo said he ordered security to arrest the Vegetable Market kidnappers, and the kidnappers were nabbed within 24 hours.
“In the process, one of the kidnappers died. Two others escaped. This is to tell you that Security operatives are working. I wonder why people will say the President is not doing anything to tackle insecurity. Kidnappers will never find peace in Edo. They will not settle here.
“No kidnapper will go free in Edo. They will be arrested. We are not sleeping. We are working to make sure Edo is safe.
“I am going to set up a special court to try kidnappers and cultists. The cases will be determined within two weeks. I will sign the death warrant. They will be publicly executed. Do not take my simplicity for granted.”
Edo Police Commissioner, Monday Agbonika, said the people now trust the Police and are sharing information.
He said the IGP supported them by providing access to drones and other technology that led them to the culprits. (The Nation)
