The Federal Government secured 150 convictions out of 160 terrorism trials on the first day of the mass trial proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), this on known Tuesday while briefing newsmen at the Federal High Court in Abuja in the ongoing trial of over 600 suspects being prosecuted on allegations bordering on terrorism offences.
“The exercise is still ongoing. It will continue today, tomorrow and on Thursday.
“Yesterday, about 160 trials were conducted. Nearly 150 convictions were secured,” he said.
According to the AGF, today, about 300 cases have been handled.
“Another 84 are expected.
“Wherever the process stops today, it will continue tomorrow and also on Thursday.
“The exercise is still in progress. I appeal for patience as we continue to carry out our lawful duty to the nation,” Fagbemi said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trial, which usually takes place at Kainji in Niger, was moved to the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja.
Fagbemi, who is also the Minister of Justice, on Monday, said the Federal Government was determined to stamp out terrorism and its related activities from the country.
According to the minister, we will fight with every inch of our blood to ensure that we make Nigeria a safe haven for everybody. (NAN)
