A man whose identity is yet to be ascertained has reportedly killed his kinsman following an alleged misunderstanding over a girlfriend in Edo State.
The incident reportedly happened on June, 12 at the Oguteke community in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government of Edo State.
Several houses were reportedly set ablaze in a reprisal attack.
The incident reportedly occurred during a wake-keep in Oguteke community, when two youths had a misunderstanding over a girlfriend.
The misunderstanding resulted in a fight and one of them inflicted a machete cut on the head of his opponent, who was rushed to hospital.
A community source said they were at a wake keep service, when the deceased and the suspect had a misunderstanding.
The source said shortly after that the victim was confirmed dead by the doctors.
He added that the youths from his area mobilized, armed themselves with dangerous weapons, and went to the suspect’s house who had already escaped.
He said the youths met the area deserted and in anger, they set about several houses ablaze and absconded.
“People were saying the misunderstanding was over a girlfriend, but we are not sure of it. It is only the suspect, who absconded, can tell us the truth,” he said.
However, the Edo Police Command said that three suspects had been arrest in connection with the incident
When contacted, the Edo State command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident.
She said four houses were set ablaze in the area. (Daily Trust)
