Oyo state government has declared Tuesday June 16, a work-free day to commemorate and celebrate the new Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1448AH.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, revealed that the State government recognises the importance of the Hijrah in the lives of our Muslim brothers and sisters.
“The Commissioner said that the Hijrah marks the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622AD, and is considered a significant event in Islamic history.
“As a gesture of respect and solidarity with the Muslim community, we have declared tomorrow, Tuesday 16th June 2026 a work-free day in the state.” he said.
He also urged all residents to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the country as a whole.
He further called on everyone to use the opportunity to reflect on the teachings of the Hijrah, pray for the well-being of the state, the nation, and come together in the spirit of solidarity and brotherhood.
“The Hijrah is a time for reflection, prayer, and community spirit. Let us come together on this day to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in our state and our nation”, Oyelade added in the statement. (The nation)
