A large convoy of armed bandits, estimated to number over 100 and riding on motorcycles, on Saturday attacked the Pissa community in Borgu local government area of Niger State.

The attackers stormed the town in a coordinated assault, forcing residents to flee their homes for safety.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits set several houses and properties ablaze, with thick smoke billowing across parts of the community.

A resident who escaped the attack described the scene as chaotic, with people abandoning their homes as the gunmen advanced through the town.

As of the time of this report, the number of casualties had not been confirmed, and the full extent of destruction and property losses remained unclear.

Messages sent to the Niger state police public relations officer and the Commissioner of Internal security were unresponded to as at the time of filing this report. (The Nation)
