Obi and Dickson flanked by other NDC leaders, flashing victory sign after the marathon meeting
By BONIFACE AKARAH
Leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have announced the resolution of recent internal disagreements within the party following a closed-door meeting that lasted about three hours on Thursday.
The development was disclosed by one of the party's top figures, who said he had received "my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project," His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, CON, the party's presidential candidate, alongside other distinguished leaders of the NDC.
According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for party leaders to review recent developments within the party and address concerns that had generated anxiety among supporters.
"In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues," he said.
He noted that despite the recent tensions, the party leadership had remained united on its broader objective of winning future elections and offering Nigerians an alternative platform.
"We have always been on the same page on the bigger picture, i.e., winning the elections for all candidates of our party and rescuing Nigeria from the misgovernance of the APC-led government," he stated.
"However, a few issues have arisen, and we have agreed on how to handle them moving forward."
The party leader used the opportunity to appeal to members and supporters of the NDC to desist from internal attacks and remain focused on the collective mission ahead of future electoral contests.
"I want to use this opportunity again to call on all members of our party to stop the bickering and name-calling and focus on the bigger picture," he said.
He added that consultations among party leaders would continue in order to preserve unity and strengthen the party.
"Both His Excellency Peter Obi and I, as well as other leaders and stakeholders of our party, will continue to consult and engage with one another to address and resolve concerns, strengthen the unity and cohesion of our party, and ensure that we remain focused on our shared mission of rescuing Nigeria and building a better future for all."
He concluded the statement by extending Democracy Day greetings to Nigerians.
"Happy Democracy Day," he said.
