The #EndBadGovernance Movement and civil society groups have called for a 48-hour nationwide strike over rising insecurity and kidnapping cases in Nigeria.
They made the demand during a press briefing in Abuja ahead of the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations. The group also called for the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers.
The coalition said the government has failed to protect citizens. It called for urgent action to secure victims still held by kidnappers and armed groups.
The group, led by Comrade Michael Adaramoye, also demanded community-based security committees across local government areas to support existing security agencies.
It called for a public probe into security votes and spending at federal and state levels. It said funds meant for security should be properly accounted for.
The coalition urged labour unions to join the strike and protests. It said economic hardship and unemployment are driving insecurity in the country.
It added that addressing insecurity requires action on poverty, education, and job creation. (AriseNews TV)
