Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege have commended the Lagos State leadership of the party for standing by the outcome of the recently conducted primary elections despite pressure from what they described as “powerful forces” within the constituency.
The stakeholders also called on the party leadership to sanction members allegedly involved in actions capable of tarnishing the image of the APC following the primaries.
Supporters of Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, aspirants who lost in the exercise, on Tuesday protested at the APC state secretariat, expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome of the primaries.
The protesters, who chanted songs against some party leaders, demanded a review of the list of winners announced by the party.
Speaking at a press conference on behalf of concerned APC stakeholders in Agege, Adegbenro Shodijo described the actions of the protesters and their alleged sponsors as embarrassing to the constituency.
“We call on the leadership of the party to urgently investigate the disturbing activities of certain individuals who allegedly engaged in the circulation of forged, manipulated, and coerced results in a desperate attempt to subvert the democratic process,” Shodijo said.
“More disturbing was the reckless and disrespectful manner in which some of these individuals openly insulted, disparaged, and attacked highly respected state party leaders simply because the outcome did not favour their personal ambitions.
“We therefore urge the appropriate organs of the party to thoroughly investigate these actions and ensure that any member found culpable is sanctioned in accordance with the constitution of the APC.
“Discipline remains the foundation of every successful political organisation, and the party must not allow the actions of a few individuals to undermine its credibility and internal cohesion.”
The stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for Oluwagbenga Abiola and Sule Enimakure, who emerged as the APC candidates for Agege Constituencies I and II, respectively, ahead of the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election.
According to Shodijo, the APC leadership deserves commendation for refusing to succumb to pressure from individuals seeking to dominate the party structure in Agege.
“Abiola’s emergence is not merely a political victory; it is the triumph of the grassroots over intimidation, the victory of loyalty over entitlement, and the affirmation that the voice of the people remains the strongest force in any democratic process,” he said.
He added that Abiola had built strong relationships across various segments of the constituency, including youths, women, artisans, traders, religious groups, community associations, and party faithful, through years of service and engagement.
“His emergence therefore comes as no surprise to those who understand the political reality of Agege today. The people spoke clearly, the party listened, and justice prevailed.
“Together with Sule Enimakure, we are confident that the APC has fielded candidates capable of not only winning convincingly at the polls but also providing effective, responsive, and people-oriented representation.” (Tribune)
