The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has met with leaders of the Kwankwasiyya movement over the lingering dispute surrounding the party’s primary election process in Kano State.

Held behind closed doors on Monday night, the meeting was also attended by members of the NDC national leadership and representatives of the Kwankwasiyya movement led by the former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The engagement was aimed at resolving disagreements between the Kwankwasiyya bloc and legacy officials of the party in Kano State ahead of the conclusion of the party’s nomination process.

A statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, said the party leadership had stepped into the matter to promote inclusivity and ensure that all stakeholders were carried along.

According to the statement, Dickson and other party leaders are mediating in the dispute in line with the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

“The NDC leadership is mediating in the process in order to enhance inclusion and participation by every party member. The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State, and indeed across the nation as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy,” the statement said.

The party said the meeting lasted several hours and described the outcome as productive, expressing optimism that ongoing consultations would strengthen unity among members.

Meanwhile, the NDC dismissed reports claiming that it had released the results of its primary elections in some states.

The party maintained that no official results had been announced anywhere in the country and urged members to disregard lists currently circulating on social media and other platforms.

“The NDC has not released any official results of its primary elections in any state. Hence, the public and party members are urged to disregard any such list in circulation,” the statement added. (The Sun)
