Nigerian philanthropist and peace advocate, Okey Akob Anueyiagu, has been honoured by the State of Georgia in the United States with the prestigious Outstanding Georgia Citizen award.
The honour was conferred by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in recognition of Anueyiagu's contributions to humanity, philanthropy, justice and peacebuilding.
In the proclamation issued on May 8, 2026, Raffensperger described Anueyiagu as an Outstanding Georgia Citizen and directed that he be accorded every courtesy as a goodwill ambassador of the state during his travels within and outside the United States.
The proclamation stated: “May this Outstanding Citizen be afforded every courtesy as a Goodwill Ambassador from Georgia in his travels to other states, to nations beyond the borders of the United States of America, or wherever he may hereafter travel or reside. Thank you for your service to our State.”
The honour was officially issued under the seal of the Secretary of State at the State Capitol in Atlanta.
Reacting to the recognition, Anueyiagu expressed gratitude to God and described the award as an honour received with humility.
“The State of Georgia honored me as an Outstanding Citizen of the State. This recognition is an honor that I have received with gratitude to God,” he said.
According to him, the award was a recognition of his modest contributions to humanity through philanthropy and his commitment to promoting justice and peace.
“It is in recognition of my modest contribution to humanity through my philanthropy and my commitment to bringing justice and peace to the human race,” he stated.
Anueyiagu said the recognition had strengthened his conviction that even small acts of service can positively impact the lives of others.
“The honor gladdens my heart and renews my faith in knowing that the very small efforts that I have made, preserves, increases and broadens the lives of others,” he added.
He further expressed optimism that the recognition would inspire and support future efforts aimed at creating positive social change.
“I believe that this unsolicited recognition and honor will help me to accomplish what I have confidence in that'll bring about a new and meaningful change for many,” he said.
The philanthropist also expressed hope for a future marked by peace, love and shared prosperity.
“The day is coming — and it will not be far — when we will all look upon this world for peace, love, joy and prosperity for all,” Anueyiagu said.
