Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has called up forward Femi Azeez to replace Samuel Chukwueze in Nigeria’s squad for the forthcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Chukwueze has been excused from both fixtures on compassionate grounds following the burial of his late mother in Abia State earlier this week.

The absence of the experienced winger represents a temporary setback for the three-time African champions, but it opens the door for Azeez, who has already made a strong impression in national colours.

The forward announced himself in style during his maiden appearance for the Super Eagles, scoring both goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe’s Warriors.

His clinical display immediately strengthened his case for further involvement with the national team and appears to have earned the confidence of Chelle and his technical crew.

Nigeria’s preparations continue with Saturday night’s Unity Cup final against Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, with kick-off scheduled for 7.30pm Nigerian time.

The encounter offers the Super Eagles another opportunity to build momentum and sharpen tactical cohesion before their European assignments.

Following the Unity Cup showdown, the squad will travel to Warsaw for an international friendly against Poland next Wednesday.

The West Africans will then face Portugal in a high-profile encounter in Leiria on Wednesday, 10 June, as Chelle continues to assess his options and shape his team ahead of future competitive engagements.
