Senator Rufai Sani Hanga
Senator representing Kano Central, Rufa’I SaniHanga, has said he willingly gave up his Senate ticket to Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna in the interest of unity within the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking in an interview with DC Hausa about his political future after losing the Kano Central Senate ticket, Hanga said the decision was made after consultations aimed at strengthening the party’s chances of success.
“Gawuna joined and expressed his desire to be with us. We know his political strength, his supporters, his reputation, and his contributions. If the goal is victory, we cannot insist that only one person must get the ticket. After discussions, it was agreed that he should be given the Kano Central ticket, and he accepted,” Hanga said.
The senator explained that the movement had always prayed for candidates who would give them the best chance of winning elections.
He added that their hope is for their leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to secure victory in Kano and eventually rise to become Nigeria’s Vice President and, ultimately, President.
Hanga maintained that all aspirants were treated fairly during the selection process.
“Anyone familiar with our structure knows that a fair arrangement was made. Every group was consulted, everyone was considered, and no one was treated unfairly,” he said.
The senator also reaffirmed his loyalty to Kwankwaso, saying he would continue to support him under all circumstances.
“I remain firmly with Kwankwaso. Whatever challenge comes his way, I will stand by him because I believe he is working for the benefit of ordinary people,” Hanga said.
He stressed that party leaders including him were involved in discussions on all nominations and that Gawuna’s emergence as the Kano Central candidate was done with his full knowledge and approval.
According to him, members of the movement will continue to support the party’s efforts to achieve victory and contribute to the development of Kano State. (Weekend Trust)
