File photo of an accident scene
Tragedy struck at Oogi community in Ayedaade local government area of Osun State after a yet-to-be-identified holidaymaker allegedly killed two policemen in a hit-and-run accident.
It was gathered that the incident occurred along Gbongan/Osogbo road on the eve of Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
It was learnt that the two policemen attached to Ode-Omu Police Station were en route to their houses on a motorcycle when a private Lexus car crushed them to death.
A source in the community who simply identified herself as Lola disclosed that one of the policemen, who is a 28-year-old Lance Corporal, Oluwatobiloba Odedina, rode the bike while his colleague, Kehinde Adeleke, sat in the back going to Orile-Owu.
One of the officers, Kehinde Adeleke, died instantly, while the other, 28-year-old Lance Corporal Oluwatobiloba Odedina, succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital in Osogbo.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle and its contents to escape possible mob attack.
Family sources of the deceased officers alleged that the police authorities had yet to arrest the driver or pay condolence visits, claiming the victims were neglected because of their junior ranks.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Abiodun Ojelabi, described it as a painful development. (The Nation)
