President Tinubu and the elder States man, Alhaji Ashafa Ajibola Erogbogbo
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to elder statesman, Alhaji Ashafa Ajibola Erogbogbo, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, describing his centenary as a rare blessing and a reward for a life dedicated to discipline, integrity and service to humanity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday ahead of the centenarian’s birthday on May 28, Tinubu said attaining the age of 100 represented a remarkable milestone and reflected a lifetime of dedication and selfless contributions to society and national development.
The President joined the family of the celebrant in giving thanks to God for what he described as a century-long journey of impact and service.
He particularly commended Erogbogbo’s contributions during his years of service at the Government Printing Press, Nigeria Customs and Excise, and later at Shell Company Nigeria Limited, where he retired as an aviation supervisor.
Tinubu said the elder statesman demonstrated professionalism, diligence and an enduring commitment to excellence throughout his career.
“In all the places where you worked, you demonstrated professionalism, diligence, and a commitment to excellence,” the President stated.
He also praised Erogbogbo’s role as a respected community leader and mentor in Ikorodu, Lagos State, noting that his influence and guidance continued to inspire younger generations.
“Your role as a respected community leader in Ikorodu, Lagos State and mentor is widely acknowledged. Your wisdom, counsel and exemplary lifestyle continue to inspire younger generations,” Tinubu said.
The President further noted that Erogbogbo, father of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, remained mentally alert and warm in spirit despite his advanced age.
“It is noteworthy that you, the father of Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, remain sharp of mind and warm of spirit at this advanced age,” he said.
Tinubu rejoiced with the celebrant’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they mark the milestone, expressing anticipation for the publication of his memoir, Echoes of Grace: The Journey of a Century, which was released to commemorate his 100th birthday.
The President also prayed for continued good health, strength, peace and happiness for the elder statesman as he begins a new chapter in life. (The Nation)
