The Nigerian Army has deepened its partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to support research in armament technology and drone warfare.
The move is aimed at boosting local innovation, training, and military technology development for security operations.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, spoke in Abuja while receiving the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sunday Echono.
Shaibu said the Army wants stronger investment in research and training for modern warfare tools, including drones and artificial intelligence.
He said the goal is to reduce dependence on imported military equipment and grow local capacity.
He also said the Army will work with TETFund to sponsor specialised training for officers in emerging defence technologies.
According to him, military education institutions such as the Nigerian Army University, Biu, remain central to this plan.
He said modern security challenges require cooperation between the military and academic institutions.
TETFund Executive Secretary, Sunday Echono, said the agency will continue to support research linked to defence and innovation.
He said stronger collaboration will help improve security and national development. (Arise News)
