Security personnel following arrest of suspected racketeers
Troops of the Headquarters 82 Division Spider Tracking Team, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and troops of Army Headquarters Garrison, have arrested two suspected arms and ammunition racketeers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the first suspect, identified as Ezeh Ifeanyi Chukwu Peter, was apprehended at about 3:20 p.m. on May 23 in the Orozo general area of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
The sources alleged that the suspect was involved in the sale of arms and ammunition belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
According to the sources, preliminary investigation led operatives to the main suspect located at Sauka around the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) area of the FCT.
The sources said the joint team subsequently mobilised to the area at about 4:00 p.m. on May 24 and arrested the main suspect identified as AC2 Uchenna Okwuruminya, an officer of the NSCDC.
The sources added that the first suspect is currently in NSCDC custody, while the second suspect remains in military custody for further investigation and necessary action. (Zagazola)
