The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating in some quarters alleging the imposition of a curfew and movement restrictions within and outside Ibadan, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The command, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, assured residents that there was no security situation warranting panic or apprehension in the state.

According to the police, normal activities should continue without fear, stressing that adequate security measures have already been put in place to safeguard lives and property across Oyo State.

The command stated that officers and operatives had been strategically deployed in different parts of the state to maintain law and order and respond promptly to any security concerns.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to categorically state that there is currently no curfew or restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters,” the statement read.

The police warned individuals and groups against spreading false information, rumours or unverified security reports capable of creating unnecessary fear and emotional distress among residents.

It added that anyone found circulating misleading information would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The command urged members of the public to disregard the rumoured restriction order and continue with their lawful activities without panic.

It further explained that any official security directive, emergency measure or movement restriction, if necessary, would only be communicated through verified official channels and authorised media platforms linked to the police command.

The statement also encouraged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding and cooperative with security agencies in the collective effort to sustain peace and public order across the state.

The clarification came amid heightened security concerns in parts of Oyo State following recent incidents of attacks and abductions reported in some communities within Oriire Local Government Area. (The Guardian)
