The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, says it has arrested 38 drug suspects, with various quantities of illicit substances, ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The command’s spokesperson, Mr Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Kano.
Quoting the State’s Commander of the Kano Strategic Command, Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, the spokesperson said that the arrest was made during a two-day raid, carried out under the ongoing “Operation Sharar Mafaka”.
According to the commander, the operation aimed at preventing criminal elements from exploiting the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir, to perpetrate crime.
“These drug dens are located in Sheka, Farm Centre, Fagge, Filin Idi, Gyadi-Gyadi, Hotoro, Tashar Rami, Audu Bako Secretariat, Hauren Gadagi, and Kofar Mata,” he said.
He said the command successfully recovered assorted illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, exol-5, diazepam, “suck and die”, rubber solution, as well as locally manufactured weapons
He noted that the command has intensified enforcement ahead of the Sallah celebration, as unscrupulous elements often exploit festive events to expand their criminal activities.
“NDLEA will continue to hit the joints until our streets are safe; Our operations will be sustained to ensure a peaceful Sallah celebration for all citizens.” He said.
The commander noted that the operation was in line with the directive of the Chairman of the agency, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, to ensure safer communities across the country.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to disrupting drug supply networks and ensuring public safety during festive periods and beyond.
He consequently, urged residents to support the agency by reporting suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. (NAN)
