The Eggon nation of Nasarawa State will witness the presentation of a Staff of Office to its paramount ruler for the first time in more than four decades, after Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule approved June 13, 2026, for the ceremony.
The event will formally usher in the reign of His Royal Highness Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku I, OFR, CJ (Rtd), as the Aren Eggon.
The Central Planning and Coordinating Committee for the coronation made this known in a statement on Thursday.
The occasion is particularly significant as it marks the first presentation of a Staff of Office to an Aren Eggon since 1983.
The last ceremony took place on February 12, 1983, when the then Governor of Plateau State, Solomon Lar, presented the Staff of Office to the immediate past Aren Eggon, Dr Bala Abaine Angbazo.
Justice Ubangari ascended the throne on May 5, 2023, following his selection by the Eggon Kingmakers.
He had served as Wazirin Eggon during the reign of Dr Angbazo, who passed away on July 13, 2022.
The Aren Eggon stool was upgraded to first-class status on June 1, 1982, by the Plateau State Government.
According to the committee in the statement issued by Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, PhD, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Committee, and Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullahi, Galadiman Eggon and Alternate Chairman, the upcoming ceremony represents a historic milestone for the Eggon people and a celebration of their royal heritage and cultural identity.
Activities lined up for the coronation are expected to showcase the traditions and unity of the Eggon nation. (Daily Trust News)
