A commercial motorcyclist in Ughelli, Delta State, identified as Kelvin Ogaga, has been arrested for allegedly abducting a child entrusted to him for daily school runs.
The father of the victim had earlier, on May 18, 2026, reported that his child was abducted by the suspect.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Thursday, the suspect allegedly kidnapped the child and subsequently demanded a ransom of ₦500,000 from the family.
“After negotiations, the family paid the demanded ransom to secure the release of the child,” Edafe said.
However, operatives of the Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS) of the state command, acting on credible technical intelligence, stormed the suspect’s hideout in Ughelli, where he was arrested.
The statement added that the sum of ₦127,000, believed to be part of the ransom money, along with other valuables allegedly purchased with proceeds of the crime, and the motorcycle used in committing the offence, were recovered by the police.
In another development, one Michael Monday, who attempted to flee upon sighting a police patrol team on township patrol along Omovutotu Street, Ozoro, Delta State, has been arrested, with one locally made cut-to-size single-barrelled gun and one cartridge recovered from his bag.
Similarly, operatives of the Department of Operations’ Buffalo Team, while on routine patrol along the Power Line axis by Bonsaac in Asaba, recovered one Beretta pistol and one iPhone from a bag abandoned by a suspect.
The suspect was said to have taken to his heels on sighting the operatives, but abandoned the bag when the patrol team immediately gave chase. (Nigerian Tribune)
