Kano State Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the installation of 166 solar-powered boreholes across communities in the state as part of efforts to address water shortage and improve access to potable water.
The Acting Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the initiative was part of the government’s emergency response measures to ease water stress in affected communities.
He said the intervention is expected to supply about 4.15 million litres of water daily and benefit an estimated 830,000 residents across the state.
According to him, each of the 166 solar-powered boreholes is designed to provide approximately 25,000 litres of water daily and serve about 5,000 people.
Hashim explained that the project represents the first phase of the initiative, adding that more boreholes would be approved and deployed in additional communities across the state.
He further disclosed that rehabilitation works at the Tamburawa and Challawa Water Treatment Plants had already commenced following the approval and award of contracts by the state government. (Daily Trust)
