NDC Presidential Candidate Peter Obi
Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Peter Obi was screened by the party’s 17-man screening committee, headed by former Ebonyi State Governor, Sam Egwu yesterday.
Our correspondent reports that by the time the party announced the closure of its presidential form sales on Monday, only Peter Obi had purchased form.
The party had previously extended the sale of forms for other aspirants until Tuesday, May 26.
Obi arrived at the party’s headquarters in Abuja for the presidential screening at about 6:45 pm yesterday, dressed in his signature black kaftan and cap.
He was accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh, and later submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms through an aide.
His arrival came shortly after the chairman of the screening committee, Sam Egwu, entered the venue. Earlier, the party had announced a 17-member screening committee for its presidential, governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives aspirants.
The committee, which was inaugurated yesterday, is headed by the former two-term Governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu.
A statement signed by the NDC National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, said Egwu, a former Senator of the Federal Republic, is to serve as Chairman, while Barr. Reuben Egwuaba, the NDC National Legal Adviser, will serve as Secretary of the committee. (Text, excluding headline: Daily Trust)
