The All Progressives Congress (APC), aspirants to the House of Representatives for Numan /Demsa/Lamurde Federal Constituency of Adamawa, on Monday protested the imposition of candidates in the just-concluded primary elections.
Speaking during the protest in Numan Local Government Area, Mrs Justina Nkon, one of the aspirants condemned the conduct of the primaries.
She said the APC members were at the venue of the primaries from 8:00 a.m. and no officials showed up until 2:00 p.m.
According to her, the officials later claimed they had conducted the election without seeing any election materials.
She called on Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri to remember the promise he made at the time of his campaign that he would not betray the people of the state.
“It’s now under your watch as the leader of the party.
“Today, we are witnessing the undemocratic process of the primary election by imposing candidates, who have not been elected by the people in the Constituency”, she said.
According to her, the so-called primary elections are unconstitutional, hence the need to reconduct a free, fair and credible primary election by the party in the state.
Vrati Nzonzo, another aspirant said the committee responsible for the primary election and the party officials failed to follow the guidelines of the party in conducting the primaries.
He said the rules of the game were to be conducted through consensus and direct primaries and none were conducted.
According to him, with what happened, their mandates have been stolen and given to someone who did not deserve to be given.
“The election was supposed to be a consensus or direct primaries but we opposed the consensus and there were no direct primaries across the constituency,”he said.
Nzonzo called on the National Chairman of APC and Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri to ensure justice and fairness for the aspirants for the victory of the party and if they fail they won’t vote for the party at the general elections.
“We want justice for the progress of the party and without fairness, there is no progress, we are respectful party loyalists.
‘We are not happy with what happened because we’re disappointed we are calling on the party leadership and the state governor to consider the plight of the masses”, he said
