Media mogul Mo Abudu
Media mogul Mo Abudu has warned the public against an AI-generated video circulating online that falsely claimed she had announced a project allowing Nigerians to earn more than 700,000 naira daily.
In an Instagram post, the EbonyLife Group founder said the clip had been artificially altered to replicate her voice and appearance.
She identified a Facebook account as the source of the fraudulent video.
Abudu stated that she had not requested money from anyone and would never do so in that manner.
She described the video as fake and misleading, and shared the original unaltered footage to clarify the matter.
She said: “It’s important that I address a fake video currently circulating online from a Facebook account called “Naija Capital Growth.” Please note that my voice and the message in the video has been altered,” she said.
“I have not asked anyone for money, and I would never ask for money in this way or manner. This video is completely fake and misleading.”
The original interview took place on 23 March 2023 at the Forbes 30/50 summit in Abu Dhabi.
During the conversation with Forbes Women editor Maggie McGrath, Abudu discussed African storytelling, media representation, and global partnerships.
“For clarity, the original video being manipulated with AI, was an interview I did with Maggie McGrath, Editor of Forbes Women, during my trip to Abu Dhabi as a speaker at the Forbes 30/50 Summit on the 23rd of March, 2023. You can swipe to find the original video,” she added.
She urged people not to send money in connection with the fake video and asked them to share her statement widely to prevent others from being scammed.
“Please do not send or part with any money in relation to this fake video. I kindly ask that you help me circulate this message as widely as possible to prevent others from being scammed or misled”, she concluded. (The Nation)
