Getting admission into a Nigerian university without writing JAMB UTME is possible in 2026 through several approved alternatives.
These routes are legal, recognised by many universities, and in some cases can even help students gain admission directly into 200 level.
Here are the six ways to enter Nigerian University without JAMB in 2026
IJMB Programme
The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) is one of the most popular alternatives to JAMB.
Runs for about 9–10 months
Students study three relevant subjects
Successful candidates can gain Direct Entry admission into 200 level
Accepted by many federal and state universities
JUPEB Programme
The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is another strong option.
Mostly accepted by universities in Southern Nigeria
Gives access to 200 level through Direct Entry
Requires O’Level credits in relevant subjects
Direct Entry (DE)
Candidates with qualifications such as:
ND, NCE, HND, IJMB, JUPEB and A-Level certificates can apply for Direct Entry into 200 level without writing UTME.
Pre-Degree or Remedial Programmes
Many universities run pre-degree or remedial programmes that prepare students for admission.
Usually lasts one academic session
Students can transition into full degree programmes after completion
Offered by several Nigerian universities
Diploma Programmes
Some universities and polytechnics offer diploma programmes.
Students can later convert to degree programmes
May qualify for Direct Entry admission into 200 level after completion
Private Universities
Some private universities offer admission without strict JAMB requirements.
Internal screening may replace UTME
Often accepts low JAMB scores or no UTME at all. (The Nation)
