INTERPOL operatives
The Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has arrested and repatriated a Chinese fugitive wanted by authorities in the People’s Republic of China over allegations of large-scale financial fraud linked to a Ponzi scheme estimated at more than $245 million.
The operation followed a formal request from Chinese authorities, who declared the suspect wanted in Beijing for allegedly mobilising illegal public deposits through fraudulent investment activities.
Investigations showed that the suspect fled China for Nigeria on November 5, 2024, in an attempt to evade arrest. Chinese authorities subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest on November 12, 2025, through the Shinan Sub-Bureau of the Qingdao Public Security Bureau.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked and arrested the fugitive at a factory in Olowotedo, Siun Village, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on April 24, 2026, following intelligence gathering and sustained surveillance.
The suspect was later repatriated to China on April 28, 2026, under bilateral police cooperation arrangements to face prosecution.
Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening international cooperation in combating transnational organised crime.
He also advised Nigerian employers and business organisations to conduct proper background checks on foreign nationals before engaging them in employment or business relationships.
The police reiterated that Nigeria would not serve as a safe haven for fugitives or individuals involved in international criminal activities. (AriseNews TV)
