Dr Alabi Tajudeen
Dr Alabi Tajudeen, Kwara All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, has expressed confidence in a free, fair and credible primaries by the party’s leadership.
He said this while speaking with newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja after obtaining the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the Kwara governorship in 2027.
He described the process as a concise format that should be followed with due diligence, saying it promised good results.
“I have said it multiple times, I believe in the leadership of the APC and with what I’ve seen here today, I am convinced that the APC will follow through with the process and it will yield desired results.
“I am sure that by the time we go for the primaries, its outcome will be acceptable by all,” he said.
He expressed confidence he would emerge as APC’s candidate and the next governor of Kwara if the primary was free, fair and credible.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that there was tension at the venue as aspirants who came to purchase the forms and their supporters had difficulties gaining access as security operatives tried to maintain law and order.
At the commencement of the exercise on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu formally joined the presidential race to re-contest his position in the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.
His expression of interest and nomination forms valued at N100 million, were picked by Mr James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives.
Faleke, who is also the Leader of Tinubu Support Group (TSG), obtained the forms on behalf of the president, in company of several party loyalists and support groups.
NAN reports that the sales of the APC expression of interest and nomination forms to aspirants seeking elective offices in the coming 2027 general election is scheduled to end on May 4.
Faleke said he picked the forms on behalf of all APC support groups that contributed money for the purchase of the forms.
“It is on behalf of all Nigerians, just as we did pre-2023 election, I was also privileged with some leaders to buy the forms.
“Here again, I am privileged to buy the forms on behalf of all Nigerians for our performing president and by the grace of God, 2027 will be a reality. He will contest and he will win the election.
“At the same time, I picked my own form to come back to the House of Representatives,” he said.
NAN reports that under the APC’s current election schedule and timetable, the presidential nomination form is pegged at N100 million as was the case in the previous election cycle.
The party is expected to screen aspirants and open a window at its appeal committee for those who may have complaints at a fixed date.
The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Duro Meseko, had said that its expression of interest and nomination forms remained open to all aspiring party members across the country.
According to him, APC’s presidential primary earlier fixed for May 15 has now been rescheduled to May 23, alongside other revised election dates.
Similarly, Alhaji Musa Kashim, joined the Yobe state’s governorship race.
The APC’s expression of interest and nomination forms were purchased for him by two groups: Haske Forum Yobe and Yobe First Movement for N50 million.
Speaking on mode of primary to pick the party’s candidate, Kashim said for a consensus agreement to stand in any state, it must be amongst aspirants who purchased forms rather than a few individuals.
Kashim is a former diplomat, development advocate and former board member of NNPC.(NAN)
