Anambra State Police Command
The police in Anambra State have arrested three suspected kidnappers who lured and kidnapped their victim on the pretext of offering him a job.
They had allegedly lured their victim, an electrician, to a location in Umuezeala Awuda, blindfolded him at gunpoint and held him captive.
Those arrested include three males whose names were given as Chidalu Obi (25 years), Chichebem Ojenigbo (26 years) and Chikannechukwu Eze (20 years).
Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the suspected kidnappers were arrested during a night operation at a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda village, Nnobi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state, in collaboration with members of Agunechemba Vigilante Group.
Ikenga added that the team successfully arrested the three armed suspects, rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol as well as the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects.
He noted that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job.
“Upon arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush at Umuezeala Awuda, where he was held captive”, he stated.
He said the suspects had confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting a ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000), which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.
Ikenga reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to safeguarding lives and property and urged members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and credible information. (The Guardian)
