The colourful Obosi United Football Club, which is an Obosi-based football club, romped into the semi-final of the President Federation Cup Competition by edging out Rangels FC of Achina.
The football competition, which is sponsored by NEROS Pharmaceuticals, is instituted to discover football talents and engage youths, positively, with a view to keeping them away from committing anti-social deeds and heinous crimes.
The star-studded Obosi United Football Club lived up to the people’s expectations by taking IBB FC of Nkpor and Rangels FC of Achina to the cleaners to reach the semi-final of the President Federation Cup Competition.
Their victory against Rangels FC of Achina set them up for an explosive semi-final clash with Idel FC of Awka, which plays in the Nigerian National League.
All the clubs participating in the President Federation Cup Competition are registered by the Anambra State Football Association. And each of the club paid a whopping sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira to become eligible to participate in the competition.
Obosi United Football Club lived up to tradition as it has produced star footballers in the same way its forebear or predecessor, The Net Breakers, did. The club parades such football acts as Uzonna Ekwuno, Ebuka Ebunam, Ekene Nwagbolu, Prince Okwudiebo, Emma Okeke (goal keeper), and others.
The star-studded Obosi United Football Club is handled by Coach Alex Agbanusi, a veteran coach, who’s a former footballer. And the club’s director is Nze Uzo Epundu, a versatile football administrator, who had earned his pips in the area of football administration.
Speaking to journalists about Obosi United United Football Club’s participation in the football competition, the chairman of the Obosi Development Union (ODU) Sports Committee, Chinwendu Okoye, made the promise that the players would represent Obosi to the best of their abilities to ensure that they win a laurel in the competition.
Okoye, who is, also, the team manager of the club, stated that football has become a unifying factor in the town of Obosi and begged well-heeled and public-spirited Obosi indigenes for moral and financial support to enable the club sustain its streak of victories.
“We shall represent Obosi town very well to ensure that the club win a laurel in the competition.
“And as ambassadors of Obosi, we shall use football to paint a good portraiture of Obosi town.
“Again, I am begging rich indigenes of Obosi to donate a bus to us and give us financial support in order to prevent Obosi United from going under,” Okoye said.
