Abayomi Arabambi
Labour Party has distanced itself from claims by Abayomi Arabambi that it has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, describing the statement as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Sokoto State Chairman of the Party and Chairman of the Northern Labour Party Chairmen Forum, Comrade Abubakar Yawale, the Party said Arabambi lacks the authority to speak on its behalf, noting that he is an expelled member.
“Arabambi is an expelled member and has no authority whatsoever to speak for or on behalf of the Labour Party. His comments are personal, misleading, and irrelevant,” the statement said.
The Party firmly denied endorsing President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“The Labour Party has not taken any decision to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition. Such a claim is false, unfounded, and should be completely disregarded,” it added.
Reaffirming its opposition stance, the Party said it remains committed to offering Nigerians an alternative vision for governance.
“The Party remains a vibrant opposition force, focused on providing credible leadership and an alternative vision for Nigeria,” the statement noted.
On the political future of Peter Obi, the Party described him as a respected figure and acknowledged his right to pursue his ambitions.
“While Peter Obi remains a respected figure, he is currently aligned with the African Democratic Congress and has every constitutional right to pursue his political ambitions on any platform. We wish him well,” the statement said.
The Party also noted its depth in leadership and readiness for future elections.
“Labour Party is not short of capable leaders. The Party has numerous competent and credible aspirants ready to contest for the presidency under its platform,” it stated.
It further affirmed that the Party’s leadership remains under Distinguished Senator Nenadi Esther Usman, stressing that only recognised organs can make binding decisions.
“Party leadership remains duly constituted… and only the recognized organs of the Party can make binding decisions,” the statement added.
The Party urged the public to disregard Arabambi’s comments, describing them as baseless.
“The public is strongly advised to ignore the baseless and self-serving statements of Abayomi Arabambi. The Labour Party remains united, focused, and committed to the Nigerian people,” it concluded. (Nigerian Tribune)
