Footage of the church invasion
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The Assemblies of God Nigeria, Ughelli District, has broken its silence on the viral video showing a violent disruption during a Sunday service at its Ovwiani branch in Ughelli, Delta State.
In an official statement issued by the district on Sunday, church authorities confirmed that the incident is currently under internal review, assuring that it is being handled with “wisdom, discretion, and maturity.”
The development comes days after reports emerged that a group of uniformed individuals stormed a service at an Assemblies of God church in the area, attacking a senior pastor and his wife and causing panic among worshippers.
Addressing the situation, the church stated: “The situation is presently under internal review and receiving the full attention it deserves,” adding that district leadership is actively managing the matter.
It also confirmed that the affected pastor and his family have received medical attention following the incident.
“We are pleased to inform the public that the Pastor and his family have received appropriate medical attention following the incident, and necessary care has been duly provided,” the statement said.
The district described the matter as internal, noting that its established spiritual and administrative structures are already engaged in resolving the issue.
“As a church community, we regard this as a family matter,” it said, expressing confidence that “a fair, appropriate, and peaceful resolution will be reached.”
While investigations continue, the church urged members of the public and the Christian community to avoid speculation and allow due process.
“We respectfully urge members of the body of Christ and the general public to refrain from speculation or drawing premature conclusions based on incomplete information,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its position, the Ughelli District said it remains committed to maintaining godliness and promoting the gospel of peace, while calling on all parties to allow peace to prevail.
