The Police Command in Ogun says it has arrested 146 suspects, following intelligence-driven operations within Sagamu and its environs.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
He said the suspects were apprehended under a special raid termed “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe.”
Babaseyi noted that the operation was part of deliberate measures to prevent crime and address emerging security concerns within Sagamu and its environs.
According to him, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Sagamu Area Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies and community stakeholders.
He explained that the exercise followed strategic engagements with traditional authorities, the Sagamu Local Government Council and heads of security agencies, to strengthen collaborative security architecture.
The spokesperson said that the intelligence-led operation which was conducted in the early hours of April 13, targeted identified flashpoints where suspected criminal elements posed threats to public peace and safety.
“The operation was aimed at forestalling any breakdown of law and order and reinforcing public safety across Sagamu and adjoining communities,” he said.
Babaseyi noted that the exercise was jointly executed by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
He said the suspects were currently undergoing screening, to determine their levels of involvement in criminal activities.
“The suspects are currently undergoing screening to ascertain their individual levels of involvement in the reported criminal activities.
“Those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for discreet investigation and necessary legal action,” he said.
He said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism and operational discipline exhibited by participating agencies.
“Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained efforts to ensure peace, safety and security across the state,” he said
He consequently, urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the command, through its emergency lines: 0800 000 9111, 0906 283 7609 and 0912 014 1706 (NAN)
