Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and ADC chieftain, Peter Obi, has declared that northern Nigeria holds the key to the country’s economic transformation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television on Monday, Obi expressed strong confidence in his plans for the region, insisting that no other candidate can rival his vision.

According to him, the North represents Nigeria’s greatest untapped asset, particularly in agriculture.

“Nobody can do what I intend to do in the North. We will change the North. Our greatest asset as a country is in the North. We can make more money from agriculture than we make from oil,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor emphasized that investing in agriculture across northern Nigeria could significantly boost the nation’s economy and reduce its dependence on oil revenue.

Obi also used the opportunity to stress the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s democratic system. He called on the government to actively support opposition parties, noting that a vibrant opposition is crucial for accountability and good governance.

“The government should protect the opposition. In fact, they should make opposition stronger and make it work,” he added. (Nigerian Tribune)
