Phynos new condom brand Okpu by Alobam
Nigerian rapper Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, popularly known as Phyno, is set to launch a new condom brand ‘Okpu by Alobam,’ an official venture into the health and lifestyle industry.
The ‘Fada Fada’ singer recently took to social media to tease his latest business venture. Phyno shared an image of the product’s sleek packaging with a caption: “Stay strapped!!!”
The name of the brand indicates Phyno’s roots and his musical legacy. “Okpu” is an Igbo word that translates to “hat” or “cap” a cheeky but clear metaphor for protection. “Alobam,” on the other hand, is a term Phyno popularized early in his career, meaning “my brother” or “my close friend.”
The packaging revealed in the teaser features two distinct designs: a beautiful pink camouflage and a classic olive-green camouflage, both emblazoned with the bold “OKPU” logo.
In Nigeria, conversations around sexual health can often be hushed or treated with a sense of bashfulness. However, a public figure as influential as Phyno who commands a massive following across the continent steps into this space, changes the narrative.
Phyno isn’t just selling a product; he is promoting a message of responsibility. The “Stay strapped” slogan is a punchy, modern way of encouraging young people to prioritize safety without making it feel like a clinical lecture.
Phyno joins a growing list of global entertainers who are diversifying their portfolios beyond music. While many artists lean toward clothing lines or record labels, the move into the contraceptive market is a strategic and unique play.
While the official launch date and retail price have not been confirmed yet, the anticipation is already building online, with fans praising the rapper for his creativity and his commitment to social responsibility. (The Guardian, excluding headline)
