The Isuikwuato Development Union (IDU) has called on all its branches worldwide to set up voter’s card transfer committees to enable indigenes participate in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its President General, Chief Chidiebere Uguru, the union said the move followed the revised election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Uguru said “all IDU branches worldwide” should establish a voter’s card transfer committee “to assist Nde Isuikwuato wherever they may be, to transfer our Permanent Voters Card (PVC) down to our various wards in Isuikwuato.”
He explained that the decision was aimed at preventing disenfranchisement, noting that “it will not be possible for most people, if not everybody, to travel back to their various locations” during the election period.
According to him, the development is linked to the timing of the elections, as “Nde Isuikwuato will still be in our celebration mood and mode within the period of January 16, 2027.”
Uguru added that transferring PVCs would allow members “to actively participate, not just to vote, but to protect our votes.”
The union recalled a similar initiative in 2022 led by Chief Dave Agwalla, which, it said, contributed to Isuikwuato being ranked third in Abia State in PVC transfers.
It further disclosed that an electronic transfer portal provided by INEC had been made available to members for both individual use and coordinated efforts across its branches.
