Nigeria Police Force
Three individuals have been arrested in Ondo State for allegedly attacking and disarming a female police officer in the Agadagba community in the state.
The suspects, Amos Ajemigi, Tari Ofoezu and Lots Alonge, forcefully took the service riot gun and other belongings of the police officer identified as Inspector Ige Olayinka.
Olayinka, attached to the Okitipupa Area Command, was on official duty in the community over a petition referred for investigation when the suspects attacked her.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, described the attack as an affront to constituted authority and a threat to public order.
According to Jimoh, the command reiterated zero tolerance for any form of violence against law enforcement personnel in the discharge of their lawful duties.
“The arrests followed a swift and intelligence-driven operation launched by operatives of the Command in response to a violent incident. The incident involved an attack on Inspector Ige Olayinka, attached to the Area Command, Okitipupa, who was on official duty in the community over a petition referred for investigation.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the officer was violently assaulted by a group of individuals while carrying out her lawful assignment. In the course of the attack, her service riot gun was forcefully taken from her alongside her personal belongings.
Upon receipt of the report, the command immediately deployed operatives to track down those responsible. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects directly linked to the incident.
“The suspects have since been charged in court and remanded in a correctional facility. The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and a threat to public order.
“He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for any form of violence against law enforcement personnel in the discharge of their lawful duties.” (The Guardian)
