Gallant troops after a successful operation
The Nigerian Army has recorded fresh successes in ongoing operations across the country, killing five terrorists, rescuing kidnapped victims, and arresting suspected collaborators in multiple states.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Army said the achievements were recorded within 24 hours through “coordinated, intelligence-driven operations,” noting that troops had “neutralised 5 terrorists, rescued kidnapped victims, apprehended suspected collaborators and logistics suppliers and thwarted criminal activities across several states.”
According to the statement, troops of 12 Brigade in Kogi State “rescued 2 kidnapped victims along the AGBEDE–ADANKOLO road in KABBA-BUNU LGA,” forcing the attackers to abandon their captives during pursuit operations. It added that troops also “intercepted and arrested 2 suspected logistics suppliers along the TUNGA–ATSAWA axis.”
In Taraba State, the Army said troops responding to cattle rustling at RAFIN TABA “recovered 198 cattle, one motorcycle, one pistol and a loaded revolver cylinder after engaging fleeing criminals,” while in Bauchi State, troops “intercepted 5 motorcycles intended as ransom payment.”
The statement further noted that operations in the South-South and South-East led to “the arrest of 27 suspects linked to drug trafficking and criminal networks in Bayelsa and Delta States,” with the recovery of locally made pistols and illicit drugs.
In Abia State, troops “uncovered and safely disposed of 4 improvised explosive devices (IEDs),” while in Cross River, a suspect was apprehended with weapons and other items.
In Rivers State, troops also “intercepted stolen metals, illegal petroleum products estimated at 900 litres and other logistics linked to economic sabotage.”
In the North-East and North-West, the Army said troops “neutralized 2 terrorists attempting to emplace IEDs along the KONDUGA–KAWURI route,” recovering rifles and magazines. It added that troops of Operation Enduring Peace in Plateau State “neutralized 3 terrorists during a successful ambush operation,” while additional suspects were arrested with arms.
The statement said further operations in Borno and Adamawa states led to the arrest of suspected kidnappers and logistics suppliers, while victims were rescued during pursuit operations in Sokoto and Katsina states. It also disclosed that in Kwara State, troops discovered “terrorist logistics including ammunition, mobile phones, solar panels and repair tools,” while in Kebbi State, five suspects were arrested after intercepting a vehicle conveying rustled livestock and motorcycles.
The Army reiterated its commitment to national security, stating that the operations underscore its “relentless commitment, in synergy with sister security agencies… to decisively defeat all threats to national security.” (The PUNCH)
